Michelle was a senior at Columbine High School when the shooting occurred on April 20, 1999. After graduation, she tried to pretend that things were normal and went off to college. She attended Metro State University and studied Psychology. Michelle was only able to attend two and a half years before her trauma took hold of her. Through lots of therapy and her husband by her side, she has been able to come out on the other side as a strong survivor. As an ambassador, Michelle helps facilitate The Rebels Project's monthly meetings that work as a form of connection amongst other survivors. Her goal is to continue to make these connections and help fellow survivors navigate their various journeys in recovery.
Michelle now is a teacher who works with preschool children who have suffered trauma themselves. She is married to Mike, who graduated from Columbine in 1996, and they have one beautiful daughter.
Michelle enjoys playing soccer, coaching, cooking, kayaking and spending time with friends and family.
